One of the most well-known spiritual gurus of all times, who was even known to be associated with heinous issues like bioterrorism is Chandramohan Jain; or more commonly known as Rajneesh Osho or Osho! Very popular as a ‘sex guru’, Osho was born on 11th December, 1931 in a little village of Madhya Pradesh known as Kunchwada. In a family of eleven children, he was the eldest.
OSHO NEVER BELIEVED IN ANY RELIGION
Although born in a Jain family, he never believed in any religion and later on, clubbed various features of multiple religions like Hinduism, Christianity, and Buddhism in his teachings. When he was twenty-one years old, his parents instigated him to get married. Without succumbing to parents’ pressure, Osho went on to gain enlightenment under a tree in Bhanvartel Gareden, Jabalpur after two years.
ANTI-RELIGIOUS OUTLOOK AND NEGATIVE VIEWS ABOUT MAHATMA GANDHI’S PRINCIPLES
However, due to a very odd approach towards religion, his teachings scarcely gained any followers in India. In fact, due to his anti-religious outlook and negative views about Mahatma Gandhi’s principles, he was thrown out from the post of a university professor in Jabalpur too. As a result, he went to the United States in the year 1981, where he was able to attract some followers. These followers later helped in setting up an international community called Rajneeshpuram in Antelope, Oregon and even donated huge amounts of land to him.
ESTABLISHMENT OF OSHO INTERNATIONAL MEDITATION RESORT
However, after spending in the US for many years, Osho returned to India and established his ashram called the ‘Osho International Meditation Resort’. Although his teachings were mainly focussed upon love, celebration, creativity, meditation, and humor, yet, there were several shocking aspects of his teachings. Osho was specifically known to stress upon the practice of sex in his ashram.
HE USED TO ENCOURAGE UNLIMITED SEX IN HIS ASHRAM
As per one of his personal assistants, Ma Anand Sheela, he used to encourage unlimited sex in his ashram as an extensive part of his therapy. According to him, sex was a natural desire of human beings that should not be nipped in the bud and rather, must be practiced with complete sincerity in order to achieve maximum happiness and solace. He preached that instead of judging sex, human beings must exercise it with full vigor and therefore, gradually, the level of intercourse in his ashram increased by leaps and bounds where every monk in the ashram used to have sex with almost ninety persons!
HAD NINETY-EIGHT ROLLS ROYCES – WORLD’S COSTLIEST CAR
In addition to this, Osho lived a life of extravagance and luxury. He used the most fashionable pens for writing and was known to own up to ninety-eight Rolls Royces, all of them given by his disciples. When asked as to why he was not giving anything to charity, he replied that when every religion in the world was taking care of the poor, he would rather take care of the rich instead! After a life full of controversies, Osho died on 19th January, 1990 due to a heart attack.
